A few years ago I was diagnosed with an auto-immune disease and was forced to look for bath products with fewer chemicals. I had no idea how challenging that was going to be - or that it would be the best thing I ever did!

After trying dozens of expensive (and disappointing) “natural” shampoo bars, soaps, face washes, lotions… the list goes on; I began researching how to make my own. I started experimenting with soap making, there were successes (and some failures), usually gifting the extras to our friends and family.

The experiments became an obsession, the obsession became a passion, and it wasn’t long before we had more soap than we (or our friends and family) could ever possibly use. We started selling at craft fairs and small markets, and were approached about putting a small booth in the Chamber of Commerce building (where you can still find a small selection of our soaps inside J’s Coffee.

This was the beginning of Oats & Clay Soap Company. Today, I still experiment and love when our customers collaborate on a custom product! O&C Soap Co. has found it’s rhythm as a small, local, queer-women owned business in western Iowa and is proud to offer a variety of gluten-free, vegan, all-natural, and classic soaps. Our core soap line started with, and still includes: 007, #9, Be-You-Tiful, Coral Reef Shampoo bar, and Senstive Betty Dog Wash bar.
